Sustainable Fishing in Scotland

Crown Prince sources our Brisling sardines (Sprattus sprattus) from the North Sea off the coast of Scotland. This fishery operates within the rules and quotas established, if necessary, by the European Union (EU) and each member state. Management plans are in place and the fishery is monitored. Currently there is no United Kingdom quota in place for Brisling sardines, indicating that there is plenty of supply and that it is being harvested in a sustainable manner. Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and non-profit monitoring groups like Natural Resource Defense Council, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Marine Stewardship Council do not mention any concerns about North Sea sardine supply since they focus on fish for fresh consumption and more high-profile canned seafood like tuna.
